Description:
Depression is more than occasional sadness; it is a mood disorder that can affect every aspect of daily life. Individuals may experience persistent low mood, loss of interest in activities, changes in sleep or appetite, and reduced energy. These symptoms can interfere with work, relationships, and overall wellbeing. Recognizing depression as a medical condition rather than a personal weakness is key to addressing it. Professional evaluation helps clarify its severity and identify appropriate ways to support recovery.

About Us
I am Dr. Anesu Chinoperekwei, founder of Serenity Mind Center. I hold a Master’s degree in Psychiatry and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Studies, complemented by specialized training in the field. I am fully registered with both the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe and the Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe.
At Serenity Mind Center, we provide comprehensive psychological and diagnostic assessments for adults and children. We also prepare psycho‑legal reports and offer advocacy services to support families and courts.
Our Approach
Seeking help for mental health concerns can feel daunting, especially given cultural expectations and the stigma that often surrounds these issues. To ease that anxiety, we take time during the initial consultation to explain what you can expect.
Our first meeting focuses on understanding you as a whole person - your daily life, background, and formative experiences. We explore family and relationship dynamics, as well as your early school years, including both achievements and challenges. At times, we may suggest inviting a trusted friend or family member to join, as their perspective can help us build a fuller picture of your journey.
This process allows us to tailor support to your needs while helping you understand how we work. It also lays the foundation for a trusting therapeutic relationship. Follow‑up sessions vary: some clients attend twice a month initially, then less frequently, while others prefer ongoing support depending on their circumstances and stressors.
Services
As a psychiatrist, my role is to support individuals through emotional pain and trauma. Through thoughtful conversations, I gently explore underlying life events that may contribute to current challenges. I assess the severity of each condition and consider whether medication may be beneficial.
For some, finding the right medication is a gradual process; for others, it is more straightforward. Our goal is always to identify the most effective option with the fewest side effects. At the same time, not all psychological difficulties require medication. We recognize this and adapt our approach accordingly, offering compassionate support through every step of healing and recovery.
